Frequently asked questions

Does TortoiseHg include Mercurial, or is a separate installation required?

The Windows installer packages the necessary Mercurial binaries, so a separate Mercurial CLI installation is not strictly required.

Can TortoiseHg work directly with native Git repositories?

TortoiseHg is designed specifically for Mercurial. Working with Git repositories requires third-party extensions like hg-git, rather than direct native Git support.

Is TortoiseHg completely free for commercial use?

Yes, it is released under the GNU General Public License v2 (GPL-2.0) and is entirely free for personal and commercial projects.
